Photosynthetic Cyanobacteria have attracted significant attention as a “Microbial factory” to produce biofuels and various fine chemicals, mostly due to their abilities to utilize CO2 and sunlight directly as carbon and energy sources, respectively. However, low tolerance to the end-products have been considered as a major issue for further improving the productivity of the renewable systems. We will report our recent progress on molecular mechanism related to tolerance regulation and engineering product tolerance in cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.
